Dr Dorette Lochner began a lifelong fascination with psychology; the way people behave, what drives them and what motivates them to change their habits. “The topic of my doctoral thesis still fascinates me. It is about the question of how teachers and leaders can stimulate motivation and how they can damage it.” After working in research and academic teaching, Dorette found her mission in making scientific psychological findings accessible to people in their working environment.  It is no surprise then that Dorette went into management and leadership training and consulting. “If we want people to do their best work, we need to know the mechanisms of achievement, motivation and peak performance. How leaders and managers design the work environment and tasks for the individual and how they encourage as well as challenge their people has a crucial impact on performance and commitment.” At a time when we think of employee engagement and the retention of talent as key to business, a focus on motivation is critical.

Dorette’s focus today is primarily on translating psychological content into training design and didactics with a focus on learning transfer into real leadership contexts. She writes training materials, does train-the-trainer sessions and is a consultant to HRD professionals.

Based in Germany, Dorette has worked with global organizations of all sizes to develop leaders and teams in many countries (Japan, China, Russia, Brazil and more).  From multinational manufacturers like Bosch GmbH through to logistics companies, Dorette has developed a genuine interest in leadership in the shop floor with the philosophy of Kaizen and lean production techniques.  Dorette’s skills in instructional design and her expertise in HR processes enable her to take a holistic approach to people management systems when she is consulting.

When she is not working, Dorette enjoys nature while hiking with her dog or swimming in the nearby river. She loves getting to know different cultures and has adventured many countries,  e.g. India, Iran, Indonesia and many more South East Asian countries, the Philippines, middle and Latin America, and of course most European countries.
